Can't sleep, can anyone advise?

Here's the situation;
Last Thursday, I reversed off my driveway, always wary of the road as it is a fairly busy road for othe traffic and pedestrians.
I bumped a car that was illegally parked on double yellow lines directly accross from my driveway. It shouldnt have been there and there was lots of other available parking but it was directly across. I realise that I have still hit a stationary car tho, and that the fault is going to lie with me.
However,I changed my job last Monday, and hadn't informed the Ins co. Does this mean my insurance will be invalid? I am so worried I cant sleep, it is only a dent but it had to be an 06 plate BMW. I feel that I have been so stupid and now I am in a flat panic and don't know what to do. I have never had to deal with this sort of thing before and have no one to go to for advice. Thanks in advance.

It should not affect your insurance claim as long as you have not become a job they would not accept eg pop star!
Give them a call and advise them of the change (Beaware some jobs can attract a premium loading). Also ring the claims department to report the claim.
Stop worrying and just give them a call, it really should not present a problem0 -
Thankyou, I will ring them today.0

On the job side, if your in the same industry then it won't be a problem. Just inform them of the claim and fill the forms in and leave it to them.0

hope it goes all ok for you please dont worry over it as long as you have insurance you should be ok

As the change of job is probably unlikely to change your risk (unless you've become a professional racing driver or courier) then you will probably get away with it.
At this stage it's better to come clean rather than they find out later on about the job.
You will probably be found liable for the accident though.
If a car is illegally parked you still have a "duty of care".
Imagine it had been a human being (a child perhaps).
You don't get out of hitting something/somebody just because they were in the "wrong place".
If it's causing you difficulty in your manouver you should attempt to find the driver (difficult sometimes I know, but you can knock on a few doors or get someone to see you back).
Sorry, that might not be what you want to hear and I fully sympathise because I appreciate how annoying this can be when someone else has caused the problem, but I think you should be prepared that you may be found to be liable.
I hit a car off my driveway once.
I was jet lagged and jsut went on "auto pilot" because it's a manouver I do every morning.
BTW - because I had NCD I did not get an icnreased premium and there is no excess on third party claims (although will be if you claim for damage to your own car).
So I did not get penalised in any way.
It depends on your NCD situation and whether you are claiming for your car, but I don't think you have a huge amount to worry about.0 -
I wouldn't bother telling anyone, unless it's been witnessed.
maybe they should take care as to where they park. (appreciate I'm playing devil's advocate somewhat)Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?0 -
Don't worry about it too much, done the same thing last week. WITH MY NEIGHBOURS CAR!!!!! Imagine the embarrassment of going to knock on her door to tell her i had bumped her car, she was really nice about it tho, and we both came into mine, had a cup of tea, whilst we called insurance company. I also hadn't changed my occupation with my insurance company, going from being a support worker to a postie. They did ask what i was using the car for at the time, but as I was taking my child to school they didn't say anything. Still have business insurance anyway, for travelling to placeS of work instead of just place of work.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0
