hi,
I've have to display some statistics on a powerpoint relating to the rates of cervical cancer; I need breakdowns by age, ethinic orign and so on. Ive tried world health and cancer research along with national statistics and i just cant seem to find simplified versions of what I need ...
Has anyone else done something similar and has a good website where I can find some stuff?
also any advice on avoiding making a presentation to text based but still conveying the same amount of information??
Jen

Looking at the Cancer Research UK website, the graphs of stats on there are pretty simple to understand. Especially as generally in presentations the graphs are just there as something for people to focus on while you discuss the results.
Not sure what you mean about your presentation to text based?0 -
some of them are ok and ive used some but some are just a bit negative (i need to avoid scaring people) and too complicated for what I need.
The presentation wont spoken in any way, its to be emailed standalone so needs to be veeerrry simple as they need to understand throughly (without making too much effort).
I'm saying text-based as it all seems to be text.... which makes it boring and more difficult for them to understand (I cant make them be interested and theyre doing it for nothing in return really).
Thanks

There were some statistics on the BBC news website when the vaccination came out as I recall, if not look for articles in the BMJ etc and then check the site they came from. I am sure I have seen something similar in the past but cannot for the life of me remember where.Debt £5600 all 0%0

thanks i had never thought of either of them, ive emailed my tutor about it too - i really worry though about asking for help as I may lose marks on the final piece (its my diss) if she contributes too much.
Thanks

Well Jen, I am a medical student (don't know what you are studying although I may have seen that posted elsewhere) so if there is any more you need feel free to pm me etc and I will be happy to assist although I do think you will find everything you want. Ps I am no good at the writing side of things, but I can access information!Debt £5600 all 0%0

Try that, its the department of health website, It may help within the search field0 -
Hey Jen
Maybe make your own graphs? It may help you show what you want more specifically. Or find a complicated graph and use Paint/photoshop to rub bits out and move other bits around?
My advice would be to make the text simple - as few words as possible
I wouldn't think you would lose marks if you go to your tutor for advice - do you mean course tutor or personal tutor0 -

My degree is in Psychology but i'm doing my dissertation on the interaction between anxiety and knowledge about cervical cancer/hpv.
Thanks norangeduck - I had used NICE but hadnt thought of them too .... not a clue why, think my brain may have changed to cotton wool last night as I have a rotten cold.Hey Jen

I cant really change a graph as they dont normally give the data so that I can make sure to get rid of the variable I dont need ...
Its my dissertation and I'm worried about what advice/guidance she offers may be too much and reduce my mark, I would have thought the majority is given for research hence being a bit worried about asking for more help.....
