Washing Machine...

Hi
My Hoover 1100 AM110 SIX washing machine just decided to stop spinning! (think it tripped the fuse in middle of a wash cycle)
The water pump is fine as it still pumps in and out but the drum is not spinning. The drive belt is fine, no sign of burning to indicate the motor may have burnt out.
What may be the problem? I have done a quick google and nothing found apart from one other person who is having exactly the same problem with same model and didnt get any reply yet!!
Thanks

Have a look at www.washerhelp.co.uk under washing machine repairs where you may get some idea of what's wrong.

Hi already been there it doesnt help me

extract from their websiteIf the drive belt is still on, and it doesn't appear to be an out of balanced load causing the not spinning fault, then proper fault finding is necessary, which really needs the use of a continuity test meter and proper knowledge of washing machine repairs. Other possible causes are blocked pressure systems, pressure switch faults, module faults, connection faults and PCB faults, as well as motor faults other than (or as well as) worn carbon brushes.
So need some info on how/what/where to check exactly... hoping someone may have access to service manuals...0 -
If the drum is not turning on wash or spin then the problem is probably the Carbon brushes . To chech you will have to remove the motor from the machine & physically check the brushes.
Do not attempt this unless you remove the plug from the socket & have good DIY skills & a good socket set & spanners.0 -

Hi - I checked the carbon brushes - plenty of life left and continuity is fine between carbon and connector.
What else can I check?0 -
If the drum is turning on wash & turning at wash speed when it should be spinning then I would say the pressure system could be blocked. Remove the big white bell ai the back of the tube & check if the tube coming out the back of the tub is blocked.
If there is no motor action at all then it may be the speed control module or timer. Both rather expensive repairs.0 -
Hi toaob there is one other thing you could try, if you take the top cover of the machine, you will see a clear hose running from the pressure valve to the side of the drum, sometimes this gets blocked and the machine will not spin, take this off and the little filter that it is attached to at the drum and clean, these block very easlly, usally soap scum, what are you using powder or liquid. it does not take a lot to block these up as they have fine holes, if it is not that it could be that the pressure valve itself is gone.

drum is not spinning at all.
I have checked the clear hose and all is clear when blowing thro it.
Would the pressure valve (is it the water level switch?) of AM110 be the same as SE220 as there is one going cheap somewhere!
Wish I had a service manual so I could follow its troubleshooting list!! Know where this can be obtained from?
Thanks!0 -
I have got to agree with cagey, what you are describing is carbon brush problem, don't be fooled by the size of the brush, unplug machine and if you can remove the brushes, take them to your friendly local washing machine repair shop and ask for advice.
Brushes don't have to wear right down to the spring to be worn out."Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0 -
I've inserted the motor from the SE220 - and off it goes - spinning as normal!!
So the motor was defective ! I noticed the model number for each motor are different - would it be ok to use this motor from the SE220 (I know it do spin, but is it safe i.e. rated etc?) in place?0 -
Don`t know these 2 models but like letsbehonest I would try a new set of brushes in the original motor. These motors do not tend to go faulty often except when the armature is damaged by the brushes being too short & arking across the armature.0
