Simular thing happened to us with the council tax. Phoned the council and without even asking they told me if I send them the bank statement they would pay it.
It does sound like virgins fault so I would think it would be easier and quicker to get them to pay or give you a credit for the amount they've cost you.
Other route is changing banks and claiming back and seem way more trouble.0
