Mould on metal - how to get rid of it? Help wanted

Afternoon all.
Over the last few weeks mould has been appearing on the metal support bar above a street facing window. The difference in temperature has been causing dampness to appear also.
What is the best way to get rid of this mould? I am about to scrape it off and re-paint the metal, but is there a substance I can use to help?
I realise it is only a short term solution, but am wanting to do somethin.
Thanks.
