Massive gas bill

Hello all, just received a massive quarterly gas bill (£1200) from Scottish Power and looking at switching suppliers. I have just checked my bill and am paying 3.617p per unit. Does this sound excessive or par for the course ?
Many thanks in advance.

Meter readings? Were they actual or estimated? Previous reading estimated?

Sounds very high, how many bedrooms property? How many people living in it? Heating on 24/7? Gas heated swimming pool?

3.617p per unit is a good price, i doubt you would save much money switching providers but its worth investigating further.
£1200 is expensive but what size house have you got? mine was £240 for the quarter, 3 bed detatched.
as rian1988 says check readings are actual or estimated and provide more info.
use a site such as energyhelpline.com and enter your yearly kwh, or monthly direct debit amount and compare prices. if you dont have old bills its a good idea to phone scottish power and ask how many kwh your using per year.

    good luck.

3.617p appears to be the tier 2 rate and exclude VAT

This equates to 3.798p inc VAT and 4.772p for tier1 inc VAT. (initial 1143kWh per quarter)

Ebico only charge 3.77p inc VAT per unit for every unit used (but with the high usage you've used I suspect you might find an even better deal elsewhere)

Yeah, that is a massive bill. Like you said if the past bills were estimated and they've finally got round to reading the meter, it may well be accurate. You will have to check your past bill. I do my gas and electric online and always make sure my utility company has accurate reading, stops high blood pressure.
