Holiday to europe next weekend

Hi everyone.

Me and the gf are off to Holland next thursday with another couple as its my birthday and also my mates birthday. I've had a look through this site and found some great cash exchange sites. Now its just a case of insurance.

There's loads of insurance being offered by loads of companies but which ones are actually worth the paper they're written on? I've heard so many horror stories about travel insurance that i'd rather pay a bit more and be covered than go for the cheap option and end up getting messed around.

Thanks for your help everyone =)

My understanding is that none of the travel insurance pays out if the company decide that you were drunk at the time, and they decided this was the case with a father of the bride who had had a very moderate four drinks at his daughters wedding. I presume under the influence of anything else, such as smoke from a coffee house, might also invalidate it.

Technically they all contain that exclusion and a majority would use it but not all the time. The decent Insurers would only look to use this as a get out if the reason for the claim was due too you being drunk eg tripping over when drunk.

Thomas cook insurance isn't the cheapest but im led to belive its a good policy the traveller policy has a 4star rating from the people who rate these things (begins with D but can't remember how to spell it).
This policy does cover you when you've had a drink, obviously you still have to have taken reasonable care of yourself.

Before everyone assumes I'm an alcoholic I'm not, I don't actually drink alcohol LOL Plus i'm scared of flying so alcohol I reckon would just make things worse LOL

Its mainly the Nemo museum and shopping thats leading us to holland. Obviously we'll go out one night and experience the night life but its more of a relaxed week away than a mad amsterdam binger LOL

I'm more worried about things like flights being cancelled due to bad weather, any problems with the hotel, that kind of thing.

Omlette, could you link me to the article please?

    Cheers for the replies everyone.

The Thomas Cook Standard Traveller Policy does not have a specific endorsement over claims when you are drunk but there are over warranties / exclusions that they could possibly use to through out a claim if you were drunk or under the influence of drugs. Please take this into account if you take out travel insurance and need to claim for a claim when drunk

P.S The Thomas Cook policy is underwritten by Axa who in my opinion are ish

The problem with any insurance is you never really know how good it is until you need to claim.
