Please help! Can't agree with landlord or EDF on this meter reading!

I think....and don't quote me on this that the dial meters are slowly but surely being removed from all properties.
I apologise for not reading the meter correctly in the first instance, I see now how the read you came up with is correct. I must admit, working in the debt department I don't have the greatest knowledge of how the dial meters are read but did think the 'if it's in between two numbers, go to previous dial' method was correct.
It's good that your bill has now been amended accordingly!0 -

Not until smart metering comes in;)"Self trained industry expert who has worked in Electricty Distribution, Electricity & Gas Supply and currently works as an independent consultant in industry processes to particapants in the industry" :eek:0 -
I'm with the OP, espresso in post#6 and others that have decided likewise
Reading is 39329
The first dial looks like a 4, but since the second dial is between 9 and 0, it must be a 3 (the first dial would be well on it's way to the 5 if it should be read as a 4)**
second dial is between 9 & 0, so is a 9
third dial is 3
fourth dial looks like a 3, but is actually a 2 (see reason given for first dial)
fifth dial 9
So much for the training of EDF employees and an independant qualified trained meter reader. I wonder if the advice being offered by the other Approved Company Representatives from other suppliers that have recently joined this forum is so reliable?
Edit:
** as per the EDF instructions
"If the pointer on a dial falls between 9 and 0, reduce the reading already taken for the dial on the left by one""Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

I was trained in the old MEB region mainly on complex metering Max Demmand meters not standard domestic single rate meters and the ways to read meters differs from region to region due to the difference in the meters especialy when they're that old.
I must admit even though I looked at how to read it on the instructions I failed to subtract as per said instructions. However it would still be good to the last known actual read and date."Self trained industry expert who has worked in Electricty Distribution, Electricity & Gas Supply and currently works as an independent consultant in industry processes to particapants in the industry" :eek:0 -

Pretty poor back track.
You don't need training to read that meter; just common sense.0 -
It is pretty obviously 39329.
Anyone thinking otherwise needs to look a little more carefully.
As for the 'trained' amongst you coming out with over 40000, I think you may need to be re-trained.0 -
Okay, I convinced myself enough to get in touch with the landlord and explain the situation and got the account details for EDF, gave them a ring, explained again and they agreed with me that the reading is categorically 39329, so we got a new bill roughly £130 lower!
Result!
Sorry, didn't even spot that you'd resolved the problem with the right reading. Well done!0 -
Ah right, well I just decided to be very friendly and appeal to her own pocket as well as ours - at the time I didn't know what the amended bill would be so I told her I thought we were being overcharged by as much as £75 each. I also pointed out that she'd been treated very rudely by the EDF person she spoke to (who apparently she overheard saying, "I'm sick and tired of this woman annoying me all week over this" while calling her supervisor to come and look at the reading photo - so a supervisor got it wrong too!) and that I'd be happy to take this up with them myself as I was convinced of my own reading.JimmyTheWig wrote: »My point was how to get around your landlady. But by the time I posted you had already done that, so I'll shut up...
That did the trick, and she's very happy we've got a rebate!0 -
I haven't got time to read the meter properly, however I would estimate it as 39329;)0
