I'm looking to buy a house this year and have built up a 10% deposit. However, I'm new and scared at this whole house buying lark that I need some help. Does anyone know of any websites that offer a step-by-step guide on how the whole thing works?

Do you know where you're looking? What type of house? how big? Location?
That's half the battle.
Once you've found a house you like you need to read about putting an offer in - having a mortgage offer etc etc0 -
WHICH magazine has a useful book.
In some public libraries.
The title is something like "How to buy a house"................................I have put my clock back....... Kcolc ym0 -
my own experience is limited, but for me it was quite a simple process.
make an offer. if mortgage is needed the mortgage supplier will deal with conveyacing and financial side of it. if offer is accepted and you have a mortgage agreed in principle, instruct solicitor to deal with purchase.
that's the way it should be in practice. i'm sure there are less easy ways out there ...0 -
I am in a similar position to the OP. My issue is with the area choice. How much narrowing down one needs to do before start looking at the properties? I am torn between several areas and not sure how to proceed from here !!

Sorry for interuptting your thread but i posted a similar question and got no responce:o0 -
If you can't decide you need to do a big file with lists of pluses for each area - and negatives! And then view some equivalent houses in each0

The first thing I would definitely recommend that you do before even looking for houses is make sure you find someone that will give you a mortgage at 90% LTV because it will save a lot of disappointment later if you find a house and then find out no one will give you a mortgage for it because your deposit isn't big enough. It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0
