I'm looking to buy some shares for the first time. Only about £200 worth and was after advise on who to use. I bank with Natwest so opened up an account with them but they charge £15 per trade plus £10 a quarter. Is this a normal scale of charges?

Your best bet is to view Martin's article on the subject:
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/savings/cheap-online-sharedealingYou're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.0 -
Buying £200 of shares in a single company isn't worth doing. By the time you add in dealing costs and spread you'll need to make a 7% to 10% gain before breaking even.
If you have less than £1000 - £2000 to invest per company (and enough to buy several companies to diversify) you're better off with a fund.Mmmm, credit crunch. Tasty.0 -
I went through Hoodless Brennan to buy the shares. I'm only doing it to see what happens. I have had a bit of a tip on a company who's shares should rise quite a bit soon so thought I would chance my arm. Ended up buying more shares in someone else. If I gain great, if I dont then I've only lost my £200.I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Ramada/Days Inn BRG thread.0
