Selling PS3 on ebay - postage query

All of the sellers are doing £14 postage when the cheapest that I can find with insurance up to £300 is £20.
Am I missing something or are they either just swallowing the cost or under-insuring??

They are probably using a courier rather than Royal mail. Whether that suits you to wait in for collection needs to be factored in when choosing your postage options.
You will also find that some people will merely copy the postage quoted by other people and then get a shock when the post office charge more.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I have looked through all of the couriers and they come out at £20 as does RM SD for the weight and insurance.
I think that your comment is the key. We may just have to list with a "mythical" £14 postage and swallow the difference to get the thing sold! There are times when parenthood seems nothing but feeding the mouth that bites you Peter De VriesDebt free by 40 (27/11/2016)0 -

I'm surpirsed couriers came out as expensive as Royal mail for an item of that weight. There appears to still be some showing at around the £10 mark with a small supplement for extra insurance on the parcel thread.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks for your input soolin
Bringing the insurance down to cover £250 rather than £300 that my OH thinks he will get for the PS3 makes a big difference
Freightsearch says that extra insurance is for business use only but comes in at £12.95 (BTW I am registered as self-employed for mystery shopping - does this count?)
Parceltogo is £25
Interparcel is £17.25There are times when parenthood seems nothing but feeding the mouth that bites you Peter De VriesDebt free by 40 (27/11/2016)0 -
have you tried royal mail parcels? It takes longer to arrive than SD or 1st class/2nd class but compensation can be added at additional costIndecision is the key to flexibility0

That's not a bad idea.
A parcel up to 4kg would cost £6.85 and add £500 of insurance would cost a further £3.50. Not tracked though for paypal purposes so any claim against the seller could not be defended especially as items over £150 must have a signature available online.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. The problem is that the parcel weighs in at 7kg!
Do you think that buying the extra insurance from Freightsearch would be a problem? Could call obviously but don't want to flag it up to them if not necessary! There are times when parenthood seems nothing but feeding the mouth that bites you Peter De VriesDebt free by 40 (27/11/2016)0 -

I can answer that question as I've just listed a Wii.
It won't let you put any postage over £14 as that is the maximum postage costs allowed in that category. It must have been sneaked in with the new postage limits on books etc:j30/7/10:j
