Carpet laying costs

I have my carpet for stairs and landing and bedroom and vinyl for kitchen.
I have been quoted £320 to provide underlay for stairs and top hallway (3x1 meter) and bedroom 3.5 x 3.5meter. This price includes carpet grippers and fitting. He will also lay the vinyl in the kitchen 3x 3.5 meter. Is this a fair quote?

I will certainly check for you tonight - my hubby is a carpet fitter but I won't see him until this evening.0

its impossible to compare quotes for carpets & fitting without knowing the quality etc..
we bought our own stair/hall carpet, and a fitter did it for 50 quid. labour only.
took him an hour.Get some gorm.0 -
looking at measurements, hubby would charge in the region of £200 to include the underlay, gripper and labour. however, as he said you have to bear in mind the area where you are - we are in northwales - a company in another part of the UK may well charge more.0

underlay from a shop can be very expensive, my gripper strips where fine (but are dirt cheap anyhow) so I just brought some rolls of decent (well i thought so) underlay off ebay and fitted it myself, got the underlay tape from b and q. I brought
"BLUE HEAVEN 11mm thick carpet underlay by CLOUD 9 MAKER" off ebay, I think I got a couple of rolls and just managed the 3 bedrooms which saved a packet over the cost carpet right wanted.
I got that after reading reviews on a carpet site (on types of carpet for what use, I wanted good insulation and noise reduction) and taking a punt as this is by a big name but slightly cheaper, it feels good underfoot, but althought the paper once are ment to sound crinkly this still has some noise to it, but for the cost I think it was very nice. I dont know if you can use it on the stairs I believe you can but would need to use spray adhesive to hold it.
by doing this you need to clear the room so you save on costs here and then on fitting the carpet as the guy can be in and out quickly.0 -
My carpet fitter charged £2.50 per sq.m to fit, plus about £30 for the gripper rods and door strips.
I bought the underlay at https://www.tradepriced.com - my fitter said he couldn't get equivalent underlay for cheaper than that anyway. Gripper rods are £20 for 150m in B&Q.

hi,
I think your quote depends on the type of underlay he has quoted you for. There is a massive difference in price and quality between a cheap budget underlay and a decent underlay which is correct for your needs. Find out what underlay he intends to sell you, and I shall give you an HONEST lowdown on its quality, suitablility etc!
From your measurements, you would probably only require 2 rolls of underlay for your needs, leading me to have the opinion that the quote is a little steep, whatever underlay he is using!
I work for a carpet underlay manufacturer, but am impartial and am not on here just to promote our own products!Profit=sanity
