gone off wet food

Our cat is about 18months old, we have always fed him on wet food with a midday snack of dry food.
But he has recently stopped eating his wet food, we've tried different brands and warming it up but he still refuses to eat it....

What could be the reason for this?

Thanks

Is he eating at all? I'd take him to the vet for a check up - it will rule out any physical cause :)

Sorry, I'm not sure the reason, but my cats often will eat wet food mixed with cat biscuits. Could you try mixing a little wet food with a good amount of biscuits, then you can gradually increase the amount of wet food.

Maybe he's just going through a picky eating stage.

If it continues and you are worried take check with your vet.
    Looking forward to the future.
  • My cat cannot wait to trough my sugar puffs in the morning. We only ever feed him dried food, once a day, as feeding him to often makes him fat. A cat is naturally a scavenger and if you put food down for him, he will demolish the lot. We normally use onlt Go-cat or Whiskers dried. we tend not to get the vege versions, as he sure can half belt out the untasty peas across the scullery floor.

we've tried mixing wet and dry...he just picks out the dry bits. And he is eating but only dry food, and he won't drink water from a bowl so he will not be getting enough water while only eating dry food.

Have you tried moistening the dry food? That way, he may eat it still, and will be getting some water at least :)

My cat used to eat wet food as a "treat" in the afternoon and then stopped eating it, ahe just loves her dry food (James Wellbeloeved). She has fresh water all the time and the vet said this is 100% better than wet food. Good luck
  • there are always pros and cons to eating either entirely wet or dry food.
my boys eat dry all the time and occationally wet for a treat. as long as its a complete food, it'll be fine.
to encourage increase fluid intake-make sure the waterbowl is not next to the feed bowl (double diners are hated by behaviourists)
if he like dripping taps, there are various water fountains on the market/ebay
  • I took my 2 off wet food at around a year because of the smell and the waste. Also it attracted flies during the hot summer months.

Mine get dried food twice a day. If they don't eat it then it gets put down again the next morning. I certainly don't pander to them. We live on a farm and if they are hungry there are plenty of tasty rodents around!!!

Cats will eat when they are hungry, it the vet says there's nothing wrong then just keep putting the food down.

    Hi
If your cat goes out, he may be drinking water from another source.
Our cat drinks out of the fish pond.
  • I have found a mix of wet and dry food to work best for my Loki. I tend to mix in more dry than wet.

If the issue does not remedy within the week, I would take the kitty to the vet.

    Good Luck!
