RBS Innacurate Internet banking!

It has taken me 5 years to find out why I kept getting penalty charges applied to my account. I use internet banking on a daily basis to ensure that I don't exceed my limit. When I make a debit card purchase it shows immediately giving a reduced 'amount available' which is a total of the number of purchases made.

What RBS do is INCREASE the amount available if the merchant doesn't follow through and claim the funds within THREE DAYS. This is CRAZY!!!! What merchant in this day and age does not claim payment for goods or services he has sold? It is A MAJOR DEFECT in an otherwise excellent service.

Contrast this with my wife's Yorkshire Bank account where her Internet banking service shows individual purchases immediately they are made and when payment collected.

Come on RBS get your act together.

  • That’s strange because RBS is quite a name in banking services! Fingers crossed, but I have no problem so far with my Internet banking services. It is always good to read the fine prints/terms, conditions of the bank before getting on-board. Take care henceforth mate!

The problem is if a company starts to process payment and then makes error so has to do it again then you end up with 2 x payments for same thing - in the end only 1 payment is claimed so if this happened to you when spending £200 when would be a suitable time for you to have access to the second amount again which will never get claimed?

Or if you are purchasing a mobile phone with dial-a-phone they used to do a test payment of £60 but never claim the money - if this happened you would be £60 until when?? if they haven't claimed within 3 days then the company is quite slow with their banking.
