Starting a contract from scratch!?
Hi All,
I am about to move house and will now need Gas and Electricity supplied.
I am wondering who the best company to go with is. The problem is, as I have just split up with my partner who dealt with all the utilities in the past, I don’t really have any information to use on the price comparison sites, or a clue of how to go about it (credit cards are my forte!).
Could anyone offer some advice or information. I live in Scotland.
Many thanks
Louisa

Depends how big your house and type of insulation.
Initially you wil have to use whatever company is supplying.
Go to a comparison website and enter in 20,500kWh for annual gas consumption and then 3300kWh for electricity.
Then try variations on those figures and a pattern will emerge.
There probably won't be a great deal between the internet tariffs of the various companies.0 -
Hi,
That's good advice from Cardew, remember to take your meter readings from when you move in and give these to the current supplier of the house.
This makes sure you are billed for what you have used, then look around if you want to change your supplier.“Official Company Representative

When you move into the property, you'll have to accept whoever the current suppliers are. Ask the seller/LL/previous occupants who the suppliers are.
As you don't know whether the price they offer for your circumstances will be good, bad or indifferent, why not stay with them for a while and see how it goes?
No point jumping out of the frying pan is there... and I'm sure you'll have 1001 other things to arrange in the meantime.
After you have been in the property for a while, you'll have established how much energy you use and can then accurately compare the supplier you have with the competition.
