How to get your £20 late fee wiped off!

Well im pleased with myself today. I cant stand natwest ever since my OH got charged over £60 in fees when a £3 cheque bounced , causing a charge of £20 which cascaded in 2 direct debit bounces (as they didnt tell him straight away and it was too late to put funds in to stop the others happeneing) thus a £3 cheque costing us over £60!
May i add that they wouldnt refund any charges when he rung.
So when i got a £20 late fee on my credit card last month for being a day late (have to add important info that i NEVER am usually late paying). So i thought stuff it, i have no great offers on it(no low interest etc) so i know martin would say get rid of it so i just rung to say i want to close my credit card account as it has no balance on it. Lovely lady on other end asked the obligitory "why is that?" , i said because you charged me £20 for paying late so that was the icing on the cake for me with natwest. She looked at my account and said i can refund that for you if you stay so i said ok. so i got my £20 back and i have a feeling that i still may close it in a couple of months time.So maybe keep this in mind if it happens to you.
Drinks are on me!

    well done!
Tesco Finanace charged me 35 squids for being 8 pounds away from paying off the full balance (so they then charge interest on the last 2 whole months of stuff!). I phoned them and, because i'm such a loyal customer , they have waived this charge.

    Fab!

Well done guys, you saved £20 instead of getting a better closing offer that would have saved you more!

  • only got £10 back (£20 charge) from Ikea :(
I was "offered" it almost before I finished my sentence... got the feeling that it was their standard rebuke

    Well done Bhoyzone.

Your thread is called "How to get your £20 late payment fee wiped off!"

So tell me how this plan would work for someone with a balance of, say a few houndred or a few thousand pounds that therefore cannot threaten to close their account immediately?
