I need some help please!
Went to PC world yesterday and bought the stuff I needed for my wireless network.
I just want to connect 1 pc and 1 laptop. (connecting pc wirelessly as no ethernet post and seemed easier to have a usb adaptor than to install a PCI card!)
So far I have got the pc up and running on the network perfectly, although if I try to make it secure it wont play along! However my laptop (brand new and already wireless enabled) wont connect to the internet - the icon on my toolbar says the wireless network is connected, but it just wont connect to the internet. What have i done wrong? is it because the icon at the bottom says the status is "unassociated"?
Help me please I am so confused! I have been trying to set up this network for 2 hours now!
At least if they could both work I can focus on making them secure then! Im sure there is lots of advice on here on how to do that!

What router do you have. Have you chosen the wireless connection from the available wireless networks tab. Sometimes the icon will report that its connected when it really means it has found a wireless signal. You have to tell the computer to connect to it. This is in case there are multiple signals. where I stay I can get 3 different routers so if mine is turned off I still get a connected icon even though it isnt connected, its just showing other networks are available.0

do you have a firewall installed, if so you will probalby need to configure it, if not check the network connections to see if the windows firewall is active. If it is the windows firewall turn it off as its as much use as a chocolate teapot.
Another thing to check is that your browser is configured to access the internet properly this can be done through the options in the tools menu of you browser (if you are using IE you need to click on the connections tab at the top then click on LAN settings).Sometimes i surprise myself by being right.0 -

I've got one of these, I plugged it in and everything worked fine on it's own
However, I did run into a bit of trouble setting up the security.
I logged on to http://www-uk.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?childpagename=UK%2FLayout&packedargs=c%3DL_Product_C2%26cid%3D1123521944450&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper
And the FAQ's helped me out.

Are you sure that your lappy is trying to connect to "your" wifi and not a neighbours??

When you entered your WEP/WPA security keys, did you enter them as ASCII or HEX?
Try entering them again but use HEX i.e.
47A2DEFA3709A7873AD7A57F66DCA9A973FA28DC613D153DA417BE1C8CBD227
Windows can use a different algorithm to convert from ASCII to HEX but if you use HEX, this does not occur.
