Hi I was wondering if some one could help.
I have a epson 1290 printer it has never been usedand I have gone to set it up. Ican't find the software disk. I have tried to download from epson but they have 5 different sections.
When I downloaded them all the printer was recognized but did not do the setup as the manual stated.
When I lifted the lid to install the inks, the ink carriage does not move to the centre as it is suppose to but the manual says you do this in the setup but it does not bring up that option.
Please help

You say it was never used, how long since you bought it? If the ink carts were already installed, probably the ink has dried on the heads through non-use. Try cleaning the print heads with a cotton bud and a bit of alcohol.
Not clear if you have the right drivers though. Please advise what OS you are running and will advise link for correct drivers. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Hi
Running Xp Home and I have had it for about a year when I got it I took the type of it was new and unused .I tried when I got it and could not get the carriage to move across and I have now tried again and still no luck. I have never been able to get cartridges in.0 -
According to the User Manual here:
http://support2.epson.net/manuals/english/ij/stylusphoto1290890/REF_G/INDEX.HTM
you need to power on, open the cover and press and hold the yellow (or that's the colour it's shown in the manual) cartridge replacement button.
Is this what you've been doing?0 -
So what have you been printing with for the past year then?
The correct drivers for the 1290 are on this link:
http://esupport.epson-europe.com/ProductHome.aspx?lng=en-GB&data=FGQ8MBMpKluOq2H7z1PYF0QaolibwWGp&tc=6
You need the first item only on that page (driver 5.2C), but the Status Monitor 3 (1.0d) is also useful so install that too.
Are these the drivers you already have installed, if so follow fwor's advice to centre the carriage.
The original carts should still be OK if you haven't opened the seals. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I have now installed the software but still can not get the ink carriage to move to the other side to install the continuous ink feeder.
I have pressed the yellow button but there seems to be no reponse. I can move it manually but if it is not going to work I don't really want to piece the inks.
The carriage does move to set it's self when first switched on and will move the carriage back if you move it along manually.
I have tried to tell it to print but it come up with a error and says it has a general error something may be jammed switch off and try again if the problem continues contact retailer.
I have an all in one and bought this for a purpose but did not start it until now0 -
Its almost like the yellow button isnt working. If i move the cartridge cases to the left manually, then install the inks, would this work ok, or would it cause the printer to sulk?
Help please
TIA
