Isn't Betfair more MSE than betting on course or in the High Street Bookies?

Yes but the question put to me which I was answering was "why is racecourse bookmaking less profitable than it used to be"

If you dont mind me asking what was a typical days take after expenses.

    From a punters point i'm a £30 a race betting,if winning stretching upto £100 tops odd race.

Ever been to Aintree national meeting?went in 2007 in Tatts, ram jammed full, never again, too many £2 punters.

Missed a big bet on Monets Garden, due to this gutted big time.

Damn I misread your question and detailed all the expenses which came to about £300-£400 a day. If by take you mean bets taken it would be about

I would break it down to:

    winter midweek meeting £4,000
    winter weekend £5,500
    winter big meeting £10,000
    summer midweek £5,000
    summer weekend £7,500
    summer big meeting £12,000

If you meant profit it would be anything between £5k loss and £5k profit, it really would be impossible to say

Yes I used to go to the GN and bet in Tatts we used to hold about £20k on the Sat about £12k on the Friday, it was very good there, but not on the Thursday which was hopeless in terms of holding money, but obviously very good racing

Would you not be tempted to keep at least 1 pitch?

I'm perhaps ignorant/naive to the whole set up?but something for a rainy day, lol.

Been nice chatting and hearing about the other side of the fence.

It's a good question and I would have liked to have kept my Epsom Derby pitch, it's only in the Lonsdale enclosure and thus only worth about £800. But the annual expenses work out at about £1,000, which is nothing if you go racing 50-100 days a year. But add that to the daily ex's of about £250 (small enclosure so cheaper) then it's just not worth paying £1,250 ex's when you would only hold about £10,000. Plus all the admin and tax returns etc just for one days racing
