I want to travel from Edinburgh to London on the 26th feb, departing at around 9:00 and returning at around 18:00. National Express East Coast said the cheapest i could do it was £110 (for a return with a 16-25 railcard). 2 singles with them worked out more.
I checked with Virgin and with them, via Wolverhampton, it's £78.50 return. Is this the best I'll do? As a penniless student it seems like a lot.
Does anyone know of any split fares for this route, or if the cheaper tickets will be released nearer the time? Checked out Megabus but times are useless to me.
Thanks in advance for your help.

You could try splitting it a peterborough or possibly doncaster/york for the way home i.e. only pay peak for the portion of the journey that is in peak time.
Your leaving London at peak time on popular route so the return journey is doing the damage. I'd guess by now the tickets for later trains have long gone, if your doing it again once it gets past 8pm the price usually comes down loads.
I travel this route once a week (i generally leave London by 2pm or after 8pm) but only as far as darlington - i'm 99% certain there won't be anymore tickets released at a later time.0 -
Is that for the Nat Express East Coast service or the Virgin service. Sorry to be an idiot.0

Sorry, all my points were regarding National Express East Coast.
Although same principle might work if you used virgin and split it at wolverhampton.0 -
Daliana - see my reply to you in the other thread you asked the question.

Lemonade - the Virgin anglo-scottish service doesn't go via wolverhampton (though granted - she could conceivably rebook there).0 -
Sorry was just using the information the OP gave in their 1st post.0
