Microwave Woes

Options
Our premium brand microwave has just blown up (not literally!), a couple of weeks out of warranty. I have contacted the manufacturer who say that they MIGHT consider meeting the (part-) cost of repair but I have to take the oven into one of their approved repairers for examination. Also the repairer is likely to charge a fee which would not be refundable. The nearest one is fifty miles away which would mean at least two round trips with time off work, fuel etc.

This seems unreasonable to me, has anyone had similar experience that they could share? Thanks.

Ok, so what do you expect?

its out of warranty, they are saying they may pay for half the repairs, they dont actually have to do anything.

We used to build things to last thousands of years......

Now we build them to last until just after the guarantee runs out!!

I know the feeling - my hardly overworked fridge freezer required a new motor just 13 months after I bought it. I cut my losses, and bought a separate fridge and freezer from a guy on Ebay who sells seconds - a graze or knock to the paintwork, that's all, for a fraction of the price so even if they only last 12 months I am financially better off, plus I won't lose all the contents by using two appliances. So far so good. As to your microwave, I'd cut your losses too and buy a cheaper model. It may have been a premium brand but that doesn't mean anything these days, other than that you are paying for the brandname.
