Angel, it's a lovely idea but I think you are making a lot of work for yourself. Firstly you need transfers or printing that will stand up to very high temperatures over and over again, as you well know these baby vests can end up being washed hundreds of times. I have T shirts with transfers and they barely last 10 washes unless I am very very careful with them, so you may get a lot of complaints or people seeing it as a way of getting their money back when the vest no longer fits.

You also need to check out the regs on choice auctions, it can be done if you follow the rules, but do you have enough time for the turn round time as many people will expect their goods very quickly and it won't be just a case of shoving somethng in a jiffy bag and running it to the PO.

Lastly can you bring this in on cost? You'll need to buy in a small stock to cover all sizes, then you have the transfer paper, for better wear you will need some decent stuff. You will also need to print up washing instructions and make sure it is clear on the auction that these vests will need to be washed gently.

    Whatever you decide, good luck.

You can buy programmable (is that a word LOL) sewing machines, but they're not cheap.

    I think it's a great idea :T

Though you'd have to leave the machine set up permanantly so you could use it the second the item sold, great if you've got the time (and the space).

At least that way you could let people choose from a variety of designs, would appeal to a wider range of people then. Also you wouldn't have to list them all seperately, you can have a large quantity and just advertise all the designs in one sale page.

    I'd buy an embroidered T-shirt.

  • As Soo points out, it won't be easy, but if you're using transfer paper, an idea which would probably sell well would be to invite customers to e-mail photos to you, with their own message if desired, for you to print onto the garments. I'm not sure what the best type of transfer paper is; if possible, I'd get advice from someone who's washed their transferred design several times.

Anything worth doing is always hard work! I think it's a nice idea, whether you can make a profit out of it I'm not sure but its worth a crack, maybe also try advertising around your area if it's something you're thinking of doing on a regular basis.

I wasn't thinking of doing it big style (unless it paid off!) but to buy small bundles like the one in the item no I showed you and using the cheaper transfer paper ....basically for novelty items! My other half bought a West Ham vest for when our little son was born, from ebay, it was clearly done this way and the label said Tescos! so people obviously do it like this!

Thank you for your comments! I do not have the time or the money to do it big scale! Back to the thinking cap!! :)

i know your baby isnt that old at the moment but im sure you must be going to a baby clinic or soon a mum and tots class etc.. so why not get one or two of these made up and use your baby as a model.. other mums might see these and enquire were you got them from and hey presto you got a clientel and as the baby grows older do more of whats around ie bob the builder , balamory etc..

a friend did this when she printed off a t shirt with the school logo on it with a cartoon figure underneath. the kids loved them and she got loads of enquires from other mums that she made for a little while a lot of money..
Those we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
    Are thinking of you today.
  • I would try making a prototype, and see how it goes in the auction. If there is not much interest, then the idea can be abandoned. I was going to have a whole load of chess stationery printed with the intention of selling it on ebay. Then about half a dozen unused scorebooks turned up at a car boot sale. There were no takers on ebay, so I abandoned my idea.

Don't forget, if you use any logos (Football teams etc) you may get clobbered under copyright!
