Haven won't refund me

Booked a holiday at a Haven holiday park on 29th Jan (online through the Haven website). Unusual for my partner not to read reviews before booking but she booked and after booking and paying for holiday in full she then started to look for reviews.

About 98% of the reviews are negative and shocking to say the least. I've called Haven today and asked to cancel and they won't, we can only claim on the holiday cancellation plan (which was included) which only covers sickness, redundancy & jury service.

Surely we can cancel within a certain time period or get or credit card provider to charge them back?

What does it say in the terms and conditions?

Have you discussed the reviews with them?

just cause other people didn't like it doesn't mean you won't. Pontins has some terrible reviews but we went last year and although the weather was rubbish we made the most of it and enjoyed ourselves

    Haggerston Castle.

I'm always weary of review sites because most people go on them to moan, but the reviews on tripadvisor and holidaywatchdog are sooooo overwhelmingly negative and all cooment on cleanliness.

Tried looking at reviews on their devon cliffs site which was a bit more balanced but the happy people where either £9.50 sun readers who got free upgrades or people who'd paid silly money and got premuim caravans, so not even sure if we want to change to another park.

They won't refund for any other reason than redundancy, sickness, jury service or death, I don't want any of them!

Devon Cliffs is good. Admittedly we had a gold caravan both times we went but certainly didn't pay silly money. If the caravan is crap when you get there, complain and ask to move.

We used it as a base but the facilities are clean and modern and the beach is nice. I wouldn't worry about going to Devon Cliffs - can't comment on he place you've booked already, but I have pretty high standards and whilst I was in my caravan drinking wine of an evening rather than smoking and karaoke-ing until 2am with the kids, it was fine. We only went because friends said it was great for the kids and promised me I wouldn't be offended!

  • Hi there

We went to Haggerston Castle last summer (mid august) and tbh the reviews aren't all that great but we found the site to be ok and clean and tidy and most of the staff were helpful and friendly.

Can't comment on the swimming pool as it was sooo busy and people were constantly queueing to go in and i wasnt that desperate to go for a swim!

The entertainment venue where most of the kids stuff is on is too small imo for the amount of people on camp. So its best to get there early. It was fairly clean and the only reason it was messy was people brought burgers or fish and chips in and then just left it all on the tables and the floor.

There is another bigger entertainment room which seemed clean but only went in during the daytime for the panto/wrestling.

Walking around the park it seemed clean and tidy and the caravan (we stayed in a lower grade than normal) was clean and tidy.

My only complaints would be that some of the entertainment staff didnt appear to be very bothered about being there. Also they decided that some nights you couldnt have your picture taken with Rory and the gang etc. because they were pushed for time but they had plenty of time to flog bloody bingo tickets!

Tbh Haven is what you make it and we did have a good time :D and if i can help you any further then let me know.

We are hoping to go back to Haven this year, probably Caister, as son loves Rory and the gang.
    Brendan's new dance partner...please :D

If you can change your booking for another site consider seashore. We went for two years on the trot and loved it.

This year, we are trying Devon Cliffs x

You don't automatically have a right to cancel, think there is a 7 day cooling off period for items bought online, but not sure if that applies to holidays, and anyhow has passed in your case.

Sounds like the best idea is to hope that other people's more positive reviews might be your experience and go with an open mind.

We went to Haggerston Castle in October last year. It was fine and perfectly adequate for what it is. In my opinion a holiday is what you make it and for the price we paid for our holiday it was well worth the money. Do always go on what is on the review site.
