debt,saving - why can't she see?

At long last, I am beginning to 'get a grip' with the home finances thanks mainly to martins book and this site :T . I now find that my partner disapproves of the time and effort I am dedicating to this task  - sheesh !!!!

Has anyone else experienced this reaction or is she truly unique?
 Omg I over-spend by That Much every month ? !!! ,searching for ways to make ma money go mucho further.........

  • alot of relationships consist of one partner who likes to save/good with money and the other who likes to spend/less good with money. your partner is not unique. sometimes it brings people together- other times it tears the relationship apart. you have to find a balance and common ground so both of you are pulling in the same direction. constant arguments over money (or anything else for that matter) can do alot of damage if you're not careful. can you find ways to include partner. show her some attention- she may feel less wanted/jealous of the time you're spending on it/left out/you don't care or care less about her. does that make sense? don't go on all the time about moneysaving - it gets boring and will come across as nagging which will lead to further arguments.

Perhaps if you show her what you are doing and how you are making savings, it will make her understand that it's for her benefit too.

If you are planning on using the savings for something that she'll get benefit from - holiday, home improvements etc., she might be more inclined to join in?

Mr Spendless was like this and still is to some degree taking mickey out of me with this site but we know have no debt and this site has enabled us to do things which just wouldn't have been a possibility a few years ago. He realises that now.

  • thanks for your replies and advice chaps, now i've thought about it some more - maybe i've had my eyes glued to this screen or had my face in martins book a bit too often of late........

I am going to take some of your advice, not sure she will get involved, but once i show her that the number 1 spending offender in our house (me) has turned over a new leaf and i can show her just howmuch better off we are......who knows.?
