    DON'T LET THEM IN.

Just say that you will arrange something with capital one over the phone. Are you sure it is for them?

Easy for me to say but try not to worry too much. What did the letter say, was it a statutory demand or something else?

Are you planning on going BR soon?

Speak to one of the debt charities - CCCS, National Debt Line etc for advice. A debt collector (unless council tax collector) will need a warrant to enter your premises and these take time to get so this one was likely just trying to use scare tactics. Don't forget these people also work on a commission basis, so like a door-to-door salesman they will try whatever tactic they can to get you to pay up.

Call the CCCS/NDL, then call Capital One, say you are speaking to the debt charities to work out a plan going forward that would be beneficial for all parties, and they should stop sending heavies round.

Money - at this stage he CANNOT take your stuff. If he ever turns up again (check your door before you open it and get into the habit of going that) - then tell him to eff off.

A debt collector has no powers whatsoever. He is on the same level as the paperboy. Do not let them in. Swear if you like - its your house DO NOT allow this person to intimidate you in your own home. Call Cap 1 and tell them not to bother sending anyone round again - they are not allowed to send anyone unless you agree to the appointment and you are refusing permission. Do not let them fob you off, tell them again if necessary and hang up. Follow it up with a letter (recorded) - templates on here somewhere.

If you have made the decision to go BR - stop paying everyone. Its a waste of money and you are not going to be any better off because of it and it gives you more money to save for the BR fees.

If after you have called Capital One to say you do not wish to speak to someone face to face, and they send someone around anyway please please report them to the OFT and the Financial Ombudsman - they will stop it happening any more, and unless we report these bully tactics they will continue them.

(why is it the people who really are pulling a fast one don't care about the bully tactics, whereas the people whom aren't paying because they literally can't are the people driven to hell and back - grrrrr).
Do not feed the trolls please.
  • having to think long and hard about our future half term ahead and my daughter will be at home together with my son Thomas aged 3, do not want them coming round while there here.

    right

how about this for a short term plan

stop paying mortgage and all other CC bills

we have a unsecured loan with northern rock as well as our mortgage if we stop paying these we will have 562 + 155 = 717 per month saved how long before they repossess the house should have enough saved for the BR and rent for somewhere else do not want to loose the house but hey what else can we do sorry for any spelling errors on 23 tablets per day + Buprenmorhine patches for the pain, which account do you open with barclays ????
