Ryanair 'sports equipment'

What a cheeky bunch of ********** (choose your own word) they are.
On Friday 4 of us flew out to Granda with Ryanair to go snowboarding in Sierra Nevada till Sunday. As it was less than 2 days we didn't need many clothes so just slung what we needed in our hand luggage and put the snowboards in as luggage to be told we need to pay £34 each for taking sports equipment.
you're entitled to a 15k baggage allowance and my board bag, including board, boots, jacket etc weighed 8k but had to pay £34 just for the pleasure.
Granted if you were taking a case and a snowboard / ski's / surf board etc then fair enough but when it's being used as your only luggage then it's a bit of a joke.
Should have put my hand luggage in as baggage and used my snowboard as hand luggage, would probably fit in the overhead spaces too

You pick a cheap airline then you have to expect a cheap service. All the budget airlines are now cutting services right back to the bone. The flights are cheap but everything is an extra .. soon you will have to pay extra for a seat (there will be little dangly things from the roof to hang on to for those that do not wish to pay).
Given that they offer rock bottom prices for the basics they are going to screw passengers for every penny that they can when they have anything unusual .. and several budget airlines now consider checked-in baggage as a major source of extra profits and revenue.
Sometimes it is better to pay more for the flight.
