Cheapest parking in London?

I posted about this last week, but still haven't found a cheap way to park near Hammersmith - W6 8DR. We are going down by car (train not an option) this Friday and will leave on Sunday. Our hotel charges £1 per hour and otrher local parks seem to be between £20 and £22 - which I still think is a rip off or maybe I am tight!

So please help if you know of anywhere cheaper!

Even if you can't go all the way by train it's easy enough to find a tube or suburban station where you can leave your car and travel into central London by train - much easier and cheaper than trying to park in the city itself.

Where are you driving in from? Parking at a tube station and hopping in is easy. In fact, when we've done it we've been that far out that there aren't any parking restrictions in the streets surrounding the tube station that we parked for free outside someone's house rather than pay at the Station which was 3-4 pounds a day. If you tell us where you're coming from maybe we can recommend a station for you.

Option 2: parking in meter bays and on single yellows in London is free after 6.30pm on Friday evening until (not sure but think it's) 8am Saturday and free again from 6.30pm on Saturday evening and all day Sunday. So if you were prepared to move your car about a bit you'd save quite a lot - you'd only need to pay 11 quid to park at the hotel through the day on Saturday.

Car parks are just expensive in town and you have to go far out to find a tube station that doesn't have parking restrictions.

Thanks for that, I hadn't thought of parking at a tubs station. I'm a bit wary of parking on the streets, not just because of crime etc but hidden clamping notices etc- maybe I've been watching too much Watchdog!

We're coming in from Norwich, have never driven down before so this is all new to us.

Tell me if it's none of my business, but why can't you get the train from Norwich? It goes straight to Liverpool St, and Hammersmith is an easy tube ride from there.

We can't get the train because we're travelling with 2 small children, neither of which will sit still for that length of time on a train and one of them is often sick on trains. Not only that, but the trains don't fit in with their feeding and nap times etc.

Sorry, I have no idea where you park when you come in that side. Anything North is totally out of my remit!

Here's the list of tube stations with parking, ideally you want one on the district or piccadilly line, which is pretty limited - looks like Hornchursh, Arnos grove or Cockfosters. If your kids are not happy about train journeys, a tube journey in from out of town isn't going to be much better as a slower train with more stops is probably going to take as long as a train from out of town, although no longer than the same car journey through London.
