Sickness benefit and WTC - A Question?

I was wondering if anyone knew this. If you are in receipt of WTC but as a self employed person do not get paid if you are off sick, are you able to claim for SSP and Housing Benefit/Council Tax benefit for a period when your doctor considered you too sick to work????
Would appreciate any knowledge about this. Thanx

Whilst on the sick , WTC counts you as still working your normal number of hours, so that should continue to be paid.
Any self employed person can claim HB/CTB on the basis of their income in exactly the same way as an employed person can.
Self employed cannot claim SSP, but they may be able to claim Incapacity instead.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0
