  • I have picked up some bargains from Rosebys in their sale but they always seem to have some stuff on offer all the time.

Thanks for that Swan - which firmness did you opt for, did you just gamble, or is there shops that sell them so you can see how they feel?

Do you happen to know if these Argos ones are the same as the LX ones...?

I've got some of each, a terrible extravagance I know, but having good pillows is one of my little luxuries :)
I think if I'd to opt for only one of the qualities, I'd go for the firm ones, you can use two for support when reading etc, & can always put one of them out of the bed if they're too high for sleeping comfortably

sorry, I can't tell if the Argos one is the same as any of the LX ones. they have different packaging & descriptions & I can't work it out

I've never seen them in shops (mind you I haven't looked) I got mine from LX, but there must be retailers out there somewhere. maybe some of our fellow MSE-ers would know???
you could get some from LX (or Argos) & see what you think of them, & if they're not suitable you can return them provided you don't remove the protective cover. but even with those on, you'd get an idea of whether the pillow was suitable or not

if you've never used LX before, I believe there are some discount codes for new customers over on the discount & vouchers forum

bit long-winded all that, but I hope some of it helps :)

  • Do you have a "Linen Warehouse" or Textiles direct near to you at all? they sell really cheap bedlinen - I have paid £5 for a double set there. Also LX direct are good, as has been said, and also Littlewoods even more do buy one get one free offers which work out well if you add in the commission. The best synthetic pillows I have ever seen are from John Lewis - I think they are siliconised clusterfibre - they are around £18 but well worth it. Another good buy are the Littlewoods "rebound" pillows (around £12 for 4) - They are quite springy.

Thanks again Swan - sorry to ask for clarification, but do you mean you would choose the firmest one available:

    "Choice of three support levels:
Deluxe Latex foam pillow providing medium/soft support for those who prefer a shallower pillow or
Standard Super Comfort with deep Luxurious latex foam providing medium/firm support or
Super firm for those who prefer a luxurious but firmer level of support"

I expect one of these pillows would probably be enough for me to sleep on.

Thanks for all the advice, may have a look at John Lewis, don't have one near me, and haven't heard of homebargains, linen warehouse or textiles direct, but will have a look around, and see if there are any near me.

    Thanks

Dan, I got mine from LX & I imagine they'll still have the same specs, so if you just want one firm but comfy pillow, I'd go for the Super Firm from them, or the Firm one from Argos

I'm feeling all nervous now I've recommended something so expensive!

hope you get one you like :)
  • Have you tried Matalan? They have a wide range of bedding at reasonable prices. I bought a double duvet cover recently for 9.99 complete with 2 pillowcases. Washes up really well too!

I paid £35 for one pillow! It's one of the best investments I've made. If you think you spend about a third of your life with your head on your pillow why shouldn't you get a good one? I've had mine for ages and it's as firm now as when I bought it. I got it from Rackhams but can't remember brand name. I bought the firmest one available which had a zip so you can take some of the synthetic filling out.

My mum recently stayed at mine and said she had the best night's sleep thanks to my pillow.....

For duvet covers, sheets and pillowcases Ikea is great. All 100% cotton too (one thing i am very fussy about) and often cheaper than the (nasty) polycotton stuff you get in most places. Their duvets and pillows are pretty good too - wide range of synthetic and natural.
