a and l bank charges

hi everyone, this is my first post so you'll have to excuse me if i rabbit on. firstly I opened an account online with A and L, as i had recently married and we wanted a joint account, so of i went and opened it. We didn't really use it that much in all I'd say about 10
transactions
over a year, and the only way we could excess it was on line, but the id number and pin wouldn't work so i didn't bother, I know the last time i checked
there
were £4.70 in, but I didn't know that you had to pay at least £500 a month or they charged £5. So I was overdrawn 30p, now I have £180 charges for this 30p, which i feel i shouldn't have to pay as i was
miss
sold the account to start with. i have spoke to them and
received
a letter this morning saying that they won't cancel the charges as they think they are fair, what should i do.
thanks in advance xx:eek:

Its going to be extremely difficult to say that you were missold a current account when you applied online.

Did you have an authorised overdraft?
  • hiya I have just received a letter saying that i have to pay back all the money in charges of £385 even though they only really lent me 30p, every time I phoned them they weren't helpful an wouldn't stop the interest is there anything i can do at all I just think for 30p its a bit extreme thanks in advance

You started this thread a year ago and were informed then by the bank that they would not refund your charges.

What have you done in the meantime, as unless you repay the charges (or negotiate with the bank otherwise), the charges will continue to grow just as any debt you fail to repay grows.

Have a read of the latest MSE article on reclaiming bank charges if you want to attempt again to recover the charges:
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/bank-charges
"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 2010
  • I'm not sure necessarily that the £5 underfunding charges would be reclaimable Premier so that deals with at least £60 of the charges if not more. Personally, I would be arguing that the ID didn't work and that they had no way of being aware that it was overdrawn. However, if the OP did nothing 12 months ago then why has it taken 1 year to be bothered again about it? What did you do about the online ID issues at the time?
Tough one this one is gonna be.
