Hi I wonder if some kind fellow could help me with a problem I have with my boiler
Firstly appologies as I am a boier noob and have no idea about any terminoligy etc
I have a biasi Combi Riva boiler, last night we noticed the flat was a bit cold, checked the boiler and it was making a whiring noise but the red light was on ( I am led to believe this is a lockout light? whatever that means :0) I have no heating or hot water currently.
I have tried the following
Turning it off and on again (well I do work in IT after all), after doing this the whiring noise comes on and the red light kicks displays again there are a couple of clicks, but the boiler doesnt fire up.
Pressing the red light button, seems to be a faint click noise, however nothing else happens.
I get the impression I am going to need to call a proffesional out to fix this but wondered if there is anything that I could do myself?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Cheers

One of the common things we have with our combi boiler is a drop in water pressure, which is something you could check for.
Somewhere visible there should be a gauge showing you the water pressure in the system, if that isn't showing the pressure being in between the min/max there should be a small tap (usually on the underside of the boiler) that can be used to put more water into the system. If the pressure is low top it up then switch the boiler off then on again and see if that helps.0 -

Hi thanks for the reply, Pressure was a little under "1" I topped this up to "1" and tried the faithfull off/on test but alas no joy.0 -

Hi thanks for this I managed to track it down previously, still havent solved the issue.
When I turn the boiler on from the plug the whiring starts and the lock out light comes on, if I press this it intermittently goes out, but then comes back on, I have tried the reset button but that either done nothing, or made the lock out light come back on
brrr its getting chilly
Anyother ideas? anyone?0 -
I take it you have no Hot Water either......
Does the wirring noise come from the top of the bioler.......
If so then the fan is working......
When the wirring noise starts do you hear a rush of water....
If not then suspect the pump is knackered0 -
You need to fill these to 1.3 bar when cold.
If the lockout light is coming on, it generally means that the boiler either won't fire, or it fires and the flue temp gets too high too quickly, so it locks out. I suspect the noises you hear are the ch pump running.
I would suspect the fan, sensor problem, pcb, or ignitor initially.
Try here https://www.diynot.com and go to the plumbing and heating section to pose your problem. There are a lot of very good technical guys that will help you.
If you are desperate, just call out a local recommended heating engineer....;)Happiness, is a Kebab called Doner.....:heart2::heart2:0
