I just saw an article on the BBC news that sugegsted donations of items to charity shops is falling steadily and some shops are struggling. It seems in the credit crisis we are selling more for personal gain (probably on ebay!) or just freecycling rather than going down the traditional route of donating.

Apparently shops need good quality clothing to restock, so turn out those cupboards!

There are several charity shops in this area but some of them are awful. The staff are always chatting and find it hard to serve you. Some are too pricey and others keep the best stuff for themsleves! However, there are some really nice ones, one is run by some lovely elderly ladies & gents (& younger). I actually see what I give to them in the windows and on the racks and I really enjoy taking my stuff in to them, rather than leaving the bags left outside the house, and at least I know where the money goes to. Keep up the good work.
  • There was an article a few months back in our area with certain charity shops complainging about lack of donations. I help in a charity shop and we are still getting loads! Maybe it depends on the area but some of the shops round us are so fussy and will be accepting adults clothes but not childrens one week and then only bric a brac and no clothes at all the next. In ours we accept everything with a big smile on our faces and genuine gratitude and so people like to come back. At least that's my theory!!

The people I have encountered are working on low money because they believe in what they are doing so hopefully there are others with the right attitude out there.
