Whats best for cleaning?

Options
Next Saturday I want to clean my kitchen from top to bottom. This includes tiles , paint work, wooden cupboards, windows, roller blinds?, worktop and hob. I'm not sure about washing down the walls as they are painted and might go patchy?

I have stardrops, washing up liquid, bleach, brillo pads, malt vinegar and pledge wood wash.
I have found that the top of cupboards and cooker hood are sticky and I can never clean this film off.

Any tips as to what I should use on what?

Stardrops will cut through that stickiness no problem Mis-spent :D you might still need a little elbow grease to get rid of the actual grease!

If you have lemons, they are excellent for degreasing :)
  • Do you have a wall paper scraper? You can use this to remove surface grease before washing.

Tip for the future...after you have cleaned on top of your kitchen cupboards put some sheets of old newspaper on top, they will catch all the greasy stuff in the air that makes 'em sticky. Once a month chuck it out and refresh with new paper. It's not like anyone will see it up there. Save yourself some work!

I'm all for anything that means less work :D
  • Great, keep the ideas coming.
I love the idea of lemons, smell great.
    Should I dilute the stardrops?
  • I love the newspaper tip.

If the top of the cupboards are really difficult, they can be "cleaned" with a thin oil (like vegetable oil) which can then be wiped off with a mild detergent and hot water.

    Have fun!

  • I second that, hamstercheeks. DH cleaned the painted wall next to the cooker today with sugar soap and it looks like it was freshly painted.

For greasy cupboards and cooker tops, I spray with lots of furniture polish and wipe down first, then wash with stardrops. Once cooking oil has gone to that 'sticky' stage, I find that the polish helps dissolve it.

OK, I admit I'd rather not be using elbow grease!
    Good, clean fun.... :D
