Is there any app that lets you see who's watching your auctions?

As title :-) I know that ebay dont provide an official means to see who's watching your auctions but perhaps there's a third party application out there somewhere that hooks into ebay's API? I've heard hints of such a thing but not found anything.

I've never heard anything that allows this to be done, officially or otherwise.

As soolin has said, not possible, only possible unless feeBay released the fuction themselves, third party software would need access to everyones userid and password :)

It depends on how the underlying database is structured.

It must keep a count of each person that adds the item to their watch list otherwise it wouldn't be possible to see that on the seller screen and pulse wouldn't work.

Question is does it store the users id at the same time? I'd be surprised if it didn't but I'd also be very surprised if Ebay would let anyone other than themselves look at it.

Right join on the tables? IIRC :o

It must store the userid of the watcher at the same time otherwise it wouldnt appear on the watcher(potential buyers) page.

I think eBay have an API but I'm sure if this was available some clever clogs would have developed it.

As a seller it would be good to see whos watching. Are they a seller or are they a buyer who buys lots of expensive things. It would be good to know so you could work out if these watchers mean business or not.
  • But would it not also encourage shill bidding? If you can see that a watcher buys lots of expensive things, some people may want to artificially bump up the price, in the knowledge there's a good chance the watcher will still be prepared to bid higher.

Even if it was possible it is against ebay's 'spamming' rules, so if the user you contacted reported you your account would be put at risk.

As an occasional buyer myself I absolutely hate getting those little messages from spammers that start with the 'I saw you bid on an xxxx item and just wanted to let you know that I have one for sale, auction number xxx'. If I want something I'll search for it, I don't want my inbox filled with spam thank you.

Soo (who keeps getting outbid on something and can't move for the spam mails from other sellers)

    No.

And if there were and it was not provided by Ebay it would mean their site was no longer secure and I would close my account.
