Hi this is my first post so please be kind!!
I have just moved my pesnsion pot of £180k from a Standard Life PP to a SIPP and asked my IFA if gilts were worth investing. The rely was they could not offer such advice and could put me in touch with a stockbroker if I so wanted. Am i wrong in expecting investment advice from my IFA as all they recommended was investment into AXA or Prudential retirement funds that i think mitigates the benefit of a SIPP.
My question is simply where do i go for truly idependant financial advice with clear recommendations on strategies etc.
I am 61 with a decent savings amount so i can let the fund grow before drawing income from it.
Any advice will be much appreciated.

IFAs specialise in different areas. Some mortgages, some pensions, some investments, some all (dunstonh....). Woud you rather him offer you advice or something that he hasn't got expertise in?
Do you trust this current IFA? If you do and he suggests someone else for different area then its worth it is it now? If you asked your painter for a plumber and trusted your painter, woud you then trust the plumber?

Is your IFA really an IFA? A real one should be able to give you advice, that's what they are for. What you say about his recommendation makes him sound more like a salesman.
To get an IFA you can go from recommendations from friends and family or simply look in Yellow Pages. Or look on http://www.unbiased.co.uk
An IFA will give you for free an initial chat to understand your circumstances and come up with an initial proposal on moving forward. This will help you judge whether the IFA is someone you can happily work with.0 -

It makes him sound compliant. IFAs are not stockbrokers and cannot advise on the purchase of direct assets. So, his response is correct.I have my doubts i thik they are only salesmen!!
There are some salesforces and models that operate that way but most dont.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0
