My son needs more ram on his pc. It is running very slow.
He has Dell dimension Pent 4. 3.06, it had 4x256 sticks. But he need'd a new motherboard and they put in a Jet ? and only put 2 sticks in, 512 ram.
I found out the board has 3 slots, 1 is empty, why leave 1 empty when I have 2 spare sticks?
The code on the sticks is vdata MDGVD4F4G288081CDH.
DDR333(2.5)256X4
S/N535TR (VDBDB2804).
Do I have to balance the sticks (same in each slot) and where is the best place to buy.
Cheers Shug.

You shouldn't have to use the same size sticks in each slot. But you do need to know the maximum amount of memory the motherboard can take. Though with only 2x256mb in, you should be fine with at least another 1gb. You should also be able to put 1 of your spare sticks in.
I've always bought memory from Novatech, but I beleive Crucial are also very good.
Crucial have a really useful tool that you can run from the website that will tell you what you currently have and what you can fit to upgrade it. Doesn't work with my oldest PC, but does on my new one + my laptop.LBM : March 2008

If you d/load SIW - http://www.gtopala.com/siw-download.html This will tell you what m/board you have and under the memory tab under hardware will even tell you how much you can fit and max. size per mem. stick.0
