Keyboard not working - Packard Bell Laptop

Any advice gratefully received. Some of the keys on my nearly 3-year old Packard bell laptop keyboard have mysteriously stopped working.
I've taken the keys off the whole of that row and cleaned them, but to no avail.
It's the bottom row of letters which seems broken, but not all of the keys. I also think the Function key may not be working. On my keyboard it's on the bottom row in the left-hand corner.
I've tried uninstalling the keyboard drivers and then restarting so the computer finds the drivers again, but this didn't work either.
I did read about some great techie service where they come to your home and sort things like this out for about £40 - anyone know of one? I work for myself so could do without sending my laptop away. I have a wireless keyboard which I'm using at the moment, but I'd prefer to be able to use my laptop as it was intended.
Any ideas?
TIA of any help you can give.

It's a Packard Bell EasyNote W3910.
We were advised that we should be able to get to the keyboard quite easily by taking off the back of the laptop. We tried but it wasn't that simple. Can't see any easy way to ge access to the keyboard to do the change?MSE Parent Club Member #1Yummy slummy mummy club member50% slummy, 50% mummy, 100% proudImogen born Boxing Day 2006Alex born 13 July 20090 -
The long panel above the keyboard with the power switch on slides of from right to left, this reveals 4 screws to remove keyboard.0
