  • hi d!!! i`ve just recently bought a terrano same year as yours , and having never had a diesel before i have had to do a bit of research on them . i have come across some info that may help you with your car , according to a lot of diesel drivers on a few forums i`ve looked at many of them will not touch fuel from the supermarkets as if used over a long time can damage the engine /fuel system ... also the modern low sulphur diesel is apparently not very good for engines and fuel systems/pumps .

there is a product that i have recently come across and just put in my terrano that if used once a year will completely de-coke the entire engine and clean out fuel system and injectors as part of a maintenance schedule , it is called BG244 . there is an article on this product (that i first heard about from petrolprices.com) that you can read on http://www.fueltechexperts.com/ i did a bit of research myself from forums across the net and i only found praise for BG244 google it and see what you find .

it may also help to use a cetane boosting /fuel system cleaning additive such as Millers Diesel Power sport 4(or something similar but check out diesel forums/techy sites to validate claims of products as many are next to useless) in every tank to counter the problems with low sulphur(modern) diesel , i hope this is of some use to you and that your problem is sorted.

You'd hope they fixed it two years ago when they started the thread

I'm almost certain that engine is the same as the one used in Metrocab black taxis. If you go to a local taxi garage the mechanics will probably have had years of experience fixing these engines and will know all the common problems and how to solve them and probably at a reasonable cost, just a suggestion that might help.
