New lounge floor advice needed

Hi, We are thinking of solid wood floor in the lounge and hubby thinks laminate might be better? We've got 5.5 x 3.5 m room. Budget is max £700 including fitting, carpenter charges £150 a day. Decided to go and look at solid oak in B and Q (finished product)- special offer on so £777 for 25 square metres worth, and OH and friend will be fitting it, so even accounting for lost wages while OH fits it, will come out a lot cheaper than original quote.
