Sorry to hear that. I think it happens in a lot of professions. I know my FIL had same sort of thing in selling insurance and a friend of mine told me her dad is having to do NVQ in building trade. He is 60 odd years old employed by a company. He has worked as a builder his whole working life and raised 4 kids. So he has probably 40 years experience but no qualifications (I suppose you didn't need them back then) now his company are standardising everything and he needs the qualification. I can understand if he was just starting out in life but he has proven that he can do the jobs by all the experience and references he has gained over the years and you can't get that from a piece of paper.

  • Quite right . The DSA test instructors ability to teach, yet have no qualifications or experience of teaching driving. This is one thing I cannot understand amongst many others.

So if your kids fail their test, they may well have failed due to the 10% variance that examiners have to stay within. If you have a look back through the years the pass/fail rate in this country has remained at or about 45%. Each test centre has also remained at or about the same percentage also.

Example Lichfield has been around 44% for years. One in London 29% ditto

If an examiner steps out of the variance for the test centre they work from ,they are investigated by a senior examiner and told to step back in line or face a hearing. Bonkers but true

Which one in London is 29%? I don't want my son or daughter going to that one.

Are they? How does the OR know what a persons got?

17 hrs to BR and counting...

Sorry MercMan and headoos for disappearing of the thread yesterday and leaving questions unanswered until the wonderful fyp stepped in! :T

Yes MM All of your unsecured debt is included, after your BR you will not be liable for any that come to light - notify them and perhaps let the OR know.

Finally, Good Luck for today - you will be fine ...... ;)

We need a story of the day later, it's a tradition on here!

  • Hi folks. Should I tell the benefits agency I am going bankrupt?

Should I inform the electric people that I am having problems too?

I am a little concerned that after BR I am going to find it difficult to continue with the £130 a month I pay them.
    Regards

    Hi hoos

I don't think that you have to tell the benefits agency about your BR.

Regarding the electric - if you have arrears on your electric you could include this in your BR - if you do include it then the electric company may ask for a pre-paid meter to be installed.

Why don't you ask the electric company to reduce your payments slightly? They have probably overestimated slightly anyway on the amount that you need to pay them so it is worth asking if they will reduce the payment slightly for you.

    Hope this helps a little.

  • Thanks Don. I have just got the HB forms and next job is the B agency.

Could I ask the E company if I can pay another way, rather than by DD?

Also will Sky accept another way to pay?

I will post later on my final question about taking money out of the OD for BR fees and living exspenses.

Should I inform the tax people that I have or am going to cease trading ? Ditto The AA driving school.
Sorry about all the Q&A but I have now started to sort the mess out and will probably be pestering you all for years to come ;)

Why are you looking to pay other ways than direct debits? Sorry if I have missed something here.
Can you not open a basic Co-op account before BR - get your d/ds set up on that and just put enough in to cover them.
Can't answer about tax people or the driving school.

Hi SA The money for the DD's would probably be money taken from the OD in the event of a coop account. This is because I have only just put in a claim for IS or JSA which may not give us any cash till after BR. So the money in the coop would technically not be mine.

However some good news, I called the WTC and told them I was now unemployed they are going to still pay the WFT for 4 weeks by giro. I suppose I could use this to open the coop account and use the cash for the electric and phone etc. I asked why they are going to still pay it, they say it's to help me out for a bit and they don't want it back. How odd!!!
I also got forms for HB and signed a statement saying I am claiming from today. So no more rent or CT. The rent and CT are now up to date as I paid lasts weeks today.

I would just like to say to anyone reading this who have so far not said or done anything about their problems, that once you get started you will feel better. So don't hide away come forth and post, I know it takes some doing because I sat on here for months before I posted my problems. I now realise that by making the first post I had in a way committed myself to sorting out the mess. The people on here are fantastic with great knowledge and experience without whom I would be well and truly in the dark:A
