Barbecue Wedding reception?

Hello all,
Has anyone on here ever had a Barbecue wedding reception?
After the 'rough' budget for venue, dress, shoes, make up, veil, 5 x suit hire and photographer we are at 13k._pale_ Thats not including flowers, bridesmaid dresses, decorations or extras.
Need to take some drastic action and I'm exploring all avenues. I've been to a wedding party but the couple got married in Mexico and had a reception party with a Barbecue when they came back.

I should have mentioned that-The intention is a professional BBQ caterer. My friends wedding was in a hotel and the Food was done just near hotel conservatory.0 -
one venue we visited said they do a bbq for £10 a head
they recommended skewers (cheicken and veg) but could do burgers and sausages.
she also said one bride did veal and salmon but it cost a fortune0 -
A BBQ sounds like a fantastic idea, but I'd be worried about the weather. Could you get a small marquis/gazebo type thingy with some patio heaters just in case?
Or have you thought about a hog roast? They always go down well!0 -
We are having a BBQ in the evening instead of a buffet. TBH it is not cheap but we really like the idea!
Finally decided to start growing up when it comes to money!:j

We are having a hog roast, and I still think it will cost £1500 to feed 100 people.0

we went to a hog roast recently and it was fab...lovely summer evening...agree with person who suggested a canopy though...rain could spoil it somewhatonwards and upwards0

agree with the hog roast.
we had one at our reception and it was amazing!! the meat was enough for about 100-125 people, so we had some left over!Nonny mouse and Proud!!
Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience!!

Ok well it sounds like it might go down well and save us a few quid. The Venue we were looking at was about £40 per head so with 100 people thats £4k straight off-plus venue hire(£1500) and drinks.0

We're having a barbecue and getting a professional catering company to do it. They originally quoted £15pp but we asked for organic meat so it's gone up. We're having Aberdeen Angus burgers, chicken, beanburgers, a selection of salads and strawberries and cream for dessert. We're trying to keep the whole day pretty relaxed so having a barbecue fits in. The company also charge us for operational stuff, including hot food storage containers in case it rains (around £300). Our venue doesn't have a professional kitchen so it's the only way we could have hot food.Got married 23rd May 2009, many thanks to all on the Weddings and Anniversaries board for their help and support!
