Have recieved tickets for our hols to Cuba. Just thinking about upgrading the seats but it costs £179.00 per person. Only really need them for the return flight, is there anyway of just booking them one way, and does anyone know the price for this?
Thanks in advance

Some people on our flight a couple of weeks ago upgraded once seated on the flight out, I think they paid £100 each 1 way. But saying that we didnt and found the seats and amount of leg room to be very good on first choice planes. Food was ok but that the norm in my opinion. I think they had more channel and movies to watch but you could upgrade those in regular seats also.
Hope this helps a little.0 -
We upgraded to the front cabin on a First Choice flight a couple of years ago when we were offered a 2 for 1 deal. We really did enjoy it going out as we were awake, eating drinking and generally being spoiled. On the way home, the flight was overnight. That is, leaving the Caribbean at around 5pm local. This meant that after the first meal was served, the lights were lowered so that people could sleep. Yes, it was more comfortable but we did not feel we had our monies' worth on the way back IYKWIM.
We have upgraded again this year with Thomson but our main reason for doing so was to avoid the horrendous queues at check-in on our homeward flight last year. That flight was with Thomas Cook and it was horrible.0 -
i've previously upgraded with first choice but last year deceided not to.
as long as you are in a FC plane (and not thomson) i don't feel it's worth the money. the main think i look for is leg room (at 6'2) and in the back it's 33". this is pretty good. in the front it's 36". this, to me, isn't worth the extra £350 for 2 people.
who cares about the priority checkin (arrive early) / luggage (which doesn't normally get any priority) etc...0 -
On our way back last year, we were taken by coach by the tour operator. When we arrived at the airport, virtually everyone else on the flight was in front of us! It was a tiny island airport so we ended up standing outside (although under a thatch) in 35degree heat with very high humidity for at least an hour and a half! Then we did not get seats together. It was a very unpleasant experience.
This year we feel we got a good deal on the holiday with Thomson so we have paid an extra £130 each to upgrade. We would not have done it but for the fact that the holiday came in cheaper than we expected.
Generally, I prefer to pay the extra £s for my hotel rather than for 20hours of so flying time out of a two week vacation.0 -
Thanks for all the answers. I was really hoping we would be able to sleep on the way back as we then have quite a journey from Gatwick.
I don't think we will be in a first choice plane as the flight no. begins with TOM. Does this make adifference?
Has anyone booked the premier seats with their resort rep for the flight back or is this not possible?0 -
It may still be an ex-FCA plane even with the TOM prefix - Pop onto holidaytruths.co.uk and ask in the Airline forum as there are some incredibly helpful people who will tell you whether it an old FCA or TOM if you let them know your travel date and flight code. FCA no longer exist as an airline since the merger with Thomson and all planes will be re-branded by the summer although the interior will remain the same.
We flew SCP in june last yeat to Punta Cana. We did not look at the individual cost to upgrade but the overall cost of the holiday (although we did not pay it all  ) so I don't know how much it was each and it still worked out cheaper than 2 weeks in the equivelent hotel grade in Spain or Geece without paying for extra legroom seats
TBH I do not think I could ever not upgrade again!! The staff were amazing, the seats very comfortable and the food great for airline food (even my OH was impressed as he works for a company that caters airlines) Have flown LH in the standard cabin and could never go back but its personal choice! 2013 wins: Persil Bunny0 -
We booked first choice star class seats on our holiday to Jamaica last year. This was a last minute booking, so only paid £50 each to upgrade. First choice however don't let you book which seats you are in - they guarantee your party are sat together. Their idea of being sat together could be your partner is in the row in front of you - not my idea of being sat next to each other. This happened to us on the way to Jamica, on the way back we were ok, but there were a couple returning from their honeymoon who were seated apart.
For what we paid it was worth it on the return journey, but a bit dissapointed on the way out. For the money you are looking at it might be worth seeing how much the extra leg room seats are in "normal class"0 -
i "believe" although this may not be 100% but the first choice aircraft are 2-3-2 configuration (that's in premier and normal - i know this bit is true) but have seen in some forums that thomson are 3-3-3 in normal. therefore making the seats much more narrow.
if this was the case i'd definetly upgrade! (as long as premium was 2-3-2!).
but as cmac says... you are guaranteed to be sitting next to each other even if you upgrade...0 -
I believe you will be able to pre-book shortly as you currently can with TOM but it depends on when you fly. They currently use a "best fit model" to ensure minimual distruption but with 2-3-2 seating and most of the travellers in this section being couples some people will be dis-advantaged. We travelled out in 8FG and returned in 1CD so where not seperated. (Row 1 has no foot rest so I found this rather uncomfortable but then I am a fidget:p )2013 wins: Persil Bunny0
