Sanity check my gas bill?
Would you kind folk be able to sanity check my latest gas bill please? I have a 4 bed terraced victorian house (difficult to keep warm), which has gas central heating, 8 radiators and gas hob (electric oven). Our meter is rated at m3.
Our actual reading on Sept 9th 2008 was 7259.
Our actual reading on Jan 29th 2009 was 8124.
According to the bill thats 824 metric units over 122 days converted to 9129.59 gas units. First 869.00 kWh x 6.862p and next 8296.59kWh x 3.434p. Total bill for the quarter is £362.37.
We're on British Gas Click Energy 5.
Is that normal, good, bad? We have our electricity with British Gas too and should be getting a dual fuel discount.
Thanks in advance.
Jason

That is a low consumption for your home. 865 metric units over 142 days with the temperatures these last months for a four bedroom house is good.
(Note that for the entire four and a half months of your reading the total useage is only about £371 so there is some confusion with your figures - they must include a previous balance)0 -
As Kim says there is some confusion with your units.
Using your meter readings the actual usage is 865 cubic metres not 824 cubic metres. This comes to about 9584 kWh.
Taking the first 869 @ 6.863p = £50.63
Taking the remaining kWh @ 3.434 = £298.92
The VAT on these two amounts is £17.93, giving a total of £367.480 -
Sorry, yes the bill had another 41 metric units for the first 21 days which worked out at first 154kWh at 5.684p and next 303.39kWh at 2.385p (£8.75 and £7.24 respectively).
I thought perhaps our usage was high but its interesting to hear it might be low.
Thank you.0 -
Looks OK, but mightbe worth double checking if you can get a better tariff than the one you are on.0

Well, to put it into perspective as you have asked,
I live in a small three bed victorian in Yorkshire using BG click 6 (which is supposed to be cheaper than click5) and my bill from 18th Oct to 18th Jan (smaller length of time than your bill period) was £300. And I don't use it much during the day."fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts." (Bertrand Russell)0 -
It does help to put it in persepective. We have our heating on for about 1 1/2 hrs in the morning and in the evenings from about 5.30pm - 9.30pm.0
