Unless you really want a Blu Ray player, you are better off with an Xbox 360. Much better and more powerful graphics for a start due to a more powerful graphics chip and a hardware scaler. And Xbox live. Sony doesnt have anything like it. Playstation network sucks in comparison. HD movies downloadable from Netflix too on the Xbox 360.

The Xbox 360 is also much cheaper with more games and more exclusives. This gap is only likely to get bigger as the Xbox 360 is currently outselling the PS3 by 2:1.

From reviews of GTA IV, one of the PlayStations historical 'must have' games:

" Xbox 360 runs at full 720p (1280x720), whereas the PlayStation 3 code takes a 20 per cent hit, being natively rendered at 1152x640 before being software-upscaled."

"the results clearly show that over the course of the entire clip, 360 out-performs PlayStation 3 in every one of the six scenarios presented here"

"After almost two thousands words of technical discussion, the bottom line is that it's clear that Rockstar had some issues matching the basic performance of the Xbox 360 game on the PS3 hardware. Lower resolution, zero anti-aliasing support and a more variable frame-rate are the bottom line"

Similar is true for pretty much any other game that has a version on both platforms.

So think carefully before you spend twice as much...

The problem with the xbox is you have to treat it with kid gloves. If you knock it even slightly with a disc inside it will scratch the disc to the point of it being useless. We had an xbox on a tour bus and went through 4 discs in a day just because of the vibrations. At home we recently ruined rock band 2 by sliding out a dvd case which was sitting next to the xbox.

I'm sure we can't be the only ones to notice this.

That issue was on one type of the 1st generation of Xbox 360 DVD drives and was fixed 2 years ago. They had an internal piece of the laser unit that could contact the disk if you moved the xbox while the disk was spinning. They will replace your system under warranty if it continually scratches disks.

Also there were reliability issues on the earlier consoles - now fixed on current units and Microsoft gave a free 3 year warranty on the older ones.

Xboxes are common in car installs these days without any problems

I only bought mine at christmas so I can't imagine it's an old version. Rock band 2 was scratched the same day.

Then you have a faulty console. Phone Microsoft and get it replaced.

You dont get another 10% off, you get 10% of the difference.
