Unless you really want a Blu Ray player, you are better off with an Xbox 360. Much better and more powerful graphics for a start due to a more powerful graphics chip and a hardware scaler. And Xbox live. Sony doesnt have anything like it. Playstation network sucks in comparison. HD movies downloadable from Netflix too on the Xbox 360.
The Xbox 360 is also much cheaper with more games and more exclusives. This gap is only likely to get bigger as the Xbox 360 is currently outselling the PS3 by 2:1.
From reviews of GTA IV, one of the PlayStations historical 'must have' games:
" Xbox 360 runs at full 720p (1280x720), whereas the PlayStation 3 code takes a 20 per cent hit, being natively rendered at 1152x640 before being software-upscaled."
"the results clearly show that over the course of the entire clip, 360 out-performs PlayStation 3 in every one of the six scenarios presented here"
"After almost two thousands words of technical discussion, the bottom line is that it's clear that Rockstar had some issues matching the basic performance of the Xbox 360 game on the PS3 hardware. Lower resolution, zero anti-aliasing support and a more variable frame-rate are the bottom line"

Similar is true for pretty much any other game that has a version on both platforms.
So think carefully before you spend twice as much...
Total fanboy rubbish..................:rolleyes:What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!0 -

This is certainly a very biased fanboy opinion...
I have had both consoles and would never touch a 360 again,Only 3 weeks i had the xbox360 brand new and i got 3 red lights and had to wait just under 4 weeks for them to replace it and then i got 3 red lights again 5 months down the line they are rubbish!!! The Xbox and ps3 consoles both give you the option to play online and compete against other people from all over the world but they are totally different not only do Microsoft charge you for the console they then want you to pay to use the features of the console (Xbox live) I really see that as MONEYGRABBING and not MONEYSAVING....
Once you have bought the ps3 you dont have to pay for any service after that, i have had my ps3 since it launched and Sony promised when they released it they wouldnt release there next console for another 10 years where as Microsoft seem to bring more consoles out than ive had hot dinners....Sony have no need to bring a new console out for a long while because the send you automatic software updates via the playstation network and all you do is download the update FREE of charge and will probably have some great new features on your ps3 FREE of charge.....
Il be the first to admit xbox currently have more choice of games but sony is certainly buying more and more exclusives and i never have a problem finding a good choice of games for the ps3 and its only going to get better as game producers are now realising how powerful the ps3 is....
Certainly pay that little extra for the ps3 you will not regret it there by far better than the Xbox....

Jeez..... OP didnt ask which machine was better. Dont listen to any of the fan boys above. Why do people care so badly that they feel the need to slag off the other console. embarrassing really

This is incorrect. However, the 360 is a cheaper, and more popular option.
Live is good, but sluggish and expensive compared to PSN.
I have both, and both have pros and cons about them.0 -
