Yep again !
But sometimes (dont know about you) but i quite like the peace and quiet that you get at this time of night
especially at half term lol !;)
Dont you get half term hols?0 -
Yep, it is quiet this time until early mornings, and can calmly catchup with comps easily too.
No, we only get 2 weeks for christmas and easter, and about 2 months cummer hols!!
Saying that I have only been going in Thursdays and Fridays since September, so had plenty of days off since then!!:p
Now, from next week its non-stop placement 5 days a week until July, so gonnabe knackered, and get even less time to comp! :mad:0 -
How do you think you will cope with that - are you a chronic insomiac?
you will be absolutley burgered.
Its sort of (but not really)ok to not sleep when you only have a couple of hours worth of stuff to do in the day but work experience !!!!:eek:0 -
I know dreading it!!
I have to do 80 days placement altogether, so will be counting down the day, and maybe try and work in Easter and on weekends, so i get it done quicker!!
Its the paperwork side of things thats stressing me out too, have to do an 8000 work portfolio while doing the placement!!
Can't wait til July when its all over!!0 -
Oh no !!!
Im sure you'll be fine hun.
I read in one of your previous posts that you feel like you quite a shy person - do you feel ok about going on your work placement?
I have to tell you that some the nicest/genuine people ive ever met have been social workers - i think you have to be to work in that industry
Im sure that you are one of those people and you should have some confidence in yourself because (from what ive read) everyone on here thinks your'e great and you should too xx;)0 -
Aww Watters you're so sweet!! xxx
At my last placement last year there were 8 of us students together from same course, so i was with people i knew, and it wasn't too bad!
This year i'm the only one, and at the organisation i'll be working at there are 8 other colleagues who i'm going to have to attend visits with and "shadow" first, before i have to make visits completely alone!
I am shy, and it takes me a while to trust people enough to talk to them properly, which is not good when you're a professional! :-(
Also, Im always pleasing everyone else, as i want everyone to like me!!
Hate it if anyone says anything bad about me or backbites about me, as i always make sure i'm nice to everyone!!
Loads of family who know me have said they don't know how i'm gonna cut it as a social worker, cos i'm too soft and everyone will walk over me! I kinda agree, cos you have to be confident when you're dealing with people who need your help!0 -
You are completley right - but you have to be a nice person otherwise how on earth will you ever get anyone to trust you ?
Being nice is not something that should hold you back !
In your industry there will be people that will try to take advantage of your kind nature but as long as you are a good judge of character you will be fine.
My moto is "i will trust you until you prove otherwise" -there are so many people out there who think you have to "earn" trust -my belief is you have to "break" it !- dont let other people change what you believe.:rotfl:0 -
Thats a good philosophy to have!:D
I trust people too easily, and think the best of everyone, unless proven otherwise!
I want to specialise in older adults when i hopefully graduate, but lecturers have warned me its not an especially easy group to work with.
I'm not going to be dealing with sweet, little old ladys all the time, I could be given cases of convicted child abusers/rapists who have served their time, and are now in need of services in their old age, and I could be the one who has to find services for them, don't know how i'd deal with situation like that!
Plus my age is a problem too, I'm 20 next week, but i'm 5ft, and have always been mistaken for being 12-15 years old, so people might not appreciate someone like me coming into their house!
ie. say whats she going to do, she looks like shes barely out of school!!0 -
OMG !!
I do not know what to say to that sally.
Bluudy heck!!!!
That is out of my league - i could not /would not be able to do that.
Im 31 """crying""" and would not be able to deal with that ( especially as i have a little un 4yrs )
How do you get your head around something like that ??0 -
I know, I got little cousins and aunties nieces/nephews, so don't know if i could do it!!
We have to treat everyone as an individual, and make sure our own personal beliefs and opinions don't come into it!!
So going to be really hard if not impossible to separate your opinions from someone like that!!!
Suppose when you're in a situation like that and your job depends on it, you find a way to deal with it!
What uni said is just imagine they're your grandparents and treat them as such in a loving manner!!
I mean how can we do that?!?!?
Hope i don't come across something like that, but thats the thing with Social work, you can't choose and don't know what people you will be dealing with!0
