confirm identity??

i am going crazy on the ebay site trying to place a bid, it keeps coming up with confirm identity? so you are then asked to scroll down visa or mastercard and then enter card number and valid to, date and security number, which i have input in every way imaginable and it keeps saying

Please make sure your card number is correct. You may use only MasterCard and Visa

i dont know what i am doing wrong but it wont let me get past the page and get on with bidding, then i thought i would check what card details i had entered on payment screen and although i have deleted one bank account and put new one on which was verified with the 2 small sums of cash they pay in to check is ok. if no one has come across this what screen can i use to submit query to ebay as i cant find appropriate one

Its a new rule when you join ebay, you need to verify on the phone and also by credit card.

I think you are talking about paypal, because ebay only ask for bank details if you sell.

So i am lost, Can you confirm how old your account is etc?

Are you sure it is ebay :D

Have just logged onto paypal and changed my account password.

This seems really bizarre - Im so not going to provide the details they ve asked for - nobody ever asks for your ATM pin and we couldnt fill in a social security number anyway.

Really sounds like some sort of ID theft thing - has anyone else come across this? Bought something else last Friday and wasnt asked for anything like this

Never ever give an ATM Pin number to anyone. Is the page you are viewing prefixed with https? Is there a padlock on the screen, in the bottom right usually. Hit the reort button or send it to sppof@ebay.co.uk I bought last night and was not asked for anything.

If they are asking for this info then no wonder people are buying and not paying for their stuff anymore. Still, keeps the listing fees rolling I suppose.

Was that info above from a Paypal or eBay page or via email? I was unsure on that.

Hi went into ebay - clicked pay now - logged onto paypal - then the above was the next screen that came up - and couldnt get any further.

I hope to God that nobody actually fills in their details - you could lose so much with all that info given away.

Will try and send the screen print to that paypal email address - thanks for that info

  • All those details AND your pin number & you're still not sure?!!! Come on! Please use a little bit of common sense & don't let these scammers get to your hard earned money!!
  • i'd advise you to clear all your cache etc.. as it sounds like it's just automatically directing you to a spoof site. that's a devious trick, i just hope no-one falls for this.

The point is that some people would nto realise and give the info. Can I just say though, the address is spoof@ebay.co.uk I got the address wrong above.
