silly really but i cant seem to find the answer on any bank websites.
when you apply for a mortgage do they take into account your net or gross salary.
my oh works away and doesnt pay any uk tax as he is out the country for approx 7 - 8 months of the year. if we were to buy a house with a mortgage would the bank take into account his salary is tax free and that his job is 99.9999% secure? for info he is a merchant seaman and has a 5 year contract with 4 years still to go.
thanks

it is GROSS income. however, they will add up and then take away all your regular deductions, eg car payments, credit card payments, and use that for a final analysis. my £200-a month car payment made a huge difference to what the halifax was prepared to lend me.0

How will the mortgage be paid after 4 years? That's what the lender will be asking themselves."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
