can anyone tell me if my parents end up in a nursing home would the goverment take the house to pay for it which would leave me without any inheritance.

As far as I understand that is the case. You would have to sell the house to pay the Nursing Home Fee .
May I suggest that you contact Age Concern or Citizens advise who may be able to help you with this.
