Rbs Ppi - Advice Needed Pls

In Feb 2004 I took out a RBS loan over 5 years at a rate of £138.00 per month. Last month I paid my final installment. I have today been doing paper work and shredding and was about to shred my loan paperwork when to my astonisment I never realised I had been paying £26 in loan protection. I know I could probably put a claim in for paying something I never knew anything about. However, the twist to my situation is that in August 2004 I was diagnoised with Breast Cancer (Of which the bank are well aware of) I was off work for seven months and only really returned back early due to financhial hardship. On reading the small print I believe I was well in my rights to be able to claim for the period of sickness (of which I have copies of my sick notes) but I also believe that the laon could well have been paid off under the critical illness clause. I would be grateful if anybody has had anything similiar or where you think I may stand and how I would go about doing it. Many Thanks For taking time to read it.

Hi Nik
Sorry to hear about you diagnosis it must have been a real shock for you.
It appears that you could well have been able to claim on this. Whether they would have paid the whole amount off or carried on paying the monthy installments would be in the terms and conditions.
Do you hae all the paperwork to do with this Nik? If not we need to get you a template letter here so you can try to get copies of these.
If you could provide a bit more info am sure we will be able to help.
You obviously did not know you had this cover otherwise you would have claimed so it sounds as though you have a really good case here.
Did you have any other income protection insurance at the time?:mad:0 -
I think that what I would do is claim for mis selling on the grounds that you did not know you had this. I would also back this up by saying that if you had known you had it you would have claimed on it during that time you were ill and that you are disappointed that RBS did not point this out when they were aware you were ill. Also point out the loan could have been written off under critical cover and you feel very let down.
I am not a expert, hopefully someone who has been in your situation will be along later.
I hope that you are better now and Goodluck with your claim.DS1 12/10/04

Sorry to hear of your situation.
Have you tried writing to them about this first? What is the wording of the critical illness clause on your terms and conditons?0 -
Thanks ever so much for your reply.
What paperwork would I need to start a claim?
I had another loan with cahoot which after checking that paperwork I had protection on that. The only problem with that is due to financhail hardship and my sickness I went into arrears with it and it got passed onto a Debt Management Company of which I have just fininshed paying off the full amount.
I also had a couple of store cards of whcih I kept paying but when I have looked into them I was pating insurance on them too.
I am grateful of any help or advise I can get.
Many Thanks

Perhaps ring them all in the first place they may sort it out for you without having to go through the rest of the stuff.
Hi there cause it was passed to a debt management co it should not make any difference to your claim, so I am informed.
If you have all the paperwork then go straight for the first letter to them. Look on the Red Tab at top of page claim 1000's go through there and you will find a template letter. Send it to the lender after changing it around to make it fit your case. Give them 8 weeks to answer. Send all post recorded.
If you do not have all relevant paperwork you could firstly try ringing the companies and asking them to send copies if not there is a SAR on the front page of this Forum use that and send of 10.00 to each lender to get all information they have on file for you.
Good luck and if you need more help please feel free to post again.
Very good Luck to you;):mad:0 -
